Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Who is the appropriate contact person in the Learning Center if my student has a learning disability but does not have an IEP?

  • Ashley Hager, Learning Center Director x27

2. Who is the appropriate contact person in the Learning Center if my student has an IEP?

  • The grade level RSP

3. Is Gateway the appropriate placement for a child transitioning from a Special Day Class or from an Inclusion Program?

  • Based on our experience, we have found that students who have successfully transitioned from SDC to RSP for a minimum of 3 months prior to enrolling at Gateway are most successful.

4. Who do I call if I want my child to receive accommodations on tests and exams or if I want my child to receive accommodations on standardized tests?

  • If your child has an IEP, you should contact your grade-level RSP.
  • If your child has a learning disability but does not have an IEP, you should contact Ashley Hager, Learning Center Director x27
  • Ashley Hager is the contact person for all questions regarding questions about SAT or ACT accommodations.

5. What are the benefits of receiving an IEP?

  • Students with IEPs are eligible to receive the accommodation outlined in their IEP including: access to a reader or scribe for tests, paraprofessional help in the classroom, and/or participation in a study skills class.

6. How do I go about getting my child tested for a learning disability? What does the IEP process involve and how long does it take?

7. Who is in charge of monitoring the success of the SST Action plan?
