The Jack A. Sullivan Library Media Center of Gateway Charter High School provides the entire Gateway community of students, parents, and staff with an outstanding and up-to-date facility in which to access varied resources for lifelong learning. The library has an automated circulation system, 24 computers for student use, 20 magazine subscriptions, chess sets and 1500 volumes that were selected to support the curriculum. Since it is a small facility, the emphasis is on electronic resources available for research. We also have a collection of books for pleasure reading.
Soon after Gateway moved into its 7th Avenue location, Board member Lisille Matheson began planning for a library. Her neighbor, Catherine Sullivan, wanted to support Gateway's academic program and decided to donate funds to create and sustain the library program in honor of her late husband, Jack Sullivan. The beautiful room, with tables handmade by Henry Matheson, grandly opened in February 2001.
The library enjoys a close relationship and support from both SFUSD Library Services and the SF Public Library. A monthly book club has begun with a grant from SFPL.
