Gateway High School recipient of Governor's Performance Award
July 29th, 2002
Gateway is one of only two San Francisco High Schools to qualify as a Governor's Performance Award recipient.
Based on the results from the 2001 SAT 9 statewide test, Gateway high school has been selected to receive a Governor's Performance Award. Gateway, for meeting and exceeding its Academic Performance Indicator growth targets, will receive $10,105 from Governor Davis' program. "The Governor's Performance Award is a direct result of all the hard work by Gateway students, faculty and parents to meet and exceed both external and internal academic challenges. Exceeding Governor Davis' academic growth targets has been a true Gateway collaboration. We are honored Gateway has been recognized as an award recipient," said Gateway Principal Peter Thorp.
About the Governor's Performance Award:
The awards are based on growth in student academic achievement measured by the SAT9 between 2000 and 2001. To qualify for a Governor's Performance Award, schools must meet or exceed their five- percent growth target on the API, or increase their API score by five points, whichever is greater. All student subgroups Ð numerically significant populations based on ethnicity and socioeconomic disadvantage -- must also meet or exceed 80 percent of the school target, or have an API score increase of four points, whichever is greater.
3,428 California schools that are meeting their Academic Performance growth targets in the second year of the Governor's Performance Awards program will receive awards totaling $67.3 million.
