Gateway Website Wins Standard of Excellence Award

September 15th, 2004

Redesign of charter high school website wins first Web Marketing Association WebAward

San Francisco, CA September 15, 2004 – The Gateway High School newly designed website has been recognized as a nonprofit “Standard of Excellence” website by the Web Marketing Association (WMA).

This is the School’s first national award for its redesigned website, an undertaking of more than a year to better market Gateway’s first award for the School’s website. As a result of a year long effort by a Gateway team of faculty, administrators and parents, the School’s website went through a major overhaul, incorporating a new look and feel, architecture redesign, and numerous upgrades to improve usability, navigation and the overall experience for the Gateway community. “Improving our website was a goal last year and Gateway is honored to receive recognition for its efforts,” said Gateway Principal Sharon Olken.

The WMA was founded in 1997 to help set a high standard for Internet marketing and corporate Web development and is the producer of the WebAwards, an annual competition designed to judge Web sites against an Internet standard and against peer sites within their industry.

The website improvements have enable Gateway community members, and others, to quickly and easily find what they are looking for from enrollment and college counseling information, to the School’s academic program and important School dates. The website also provides academic resources and links for students, faculty and parents, including information on learning disabilities.

About Gateway High School

Gateway was founded by a group of parents and educators who believed there was a need in the Bay Area for a smaller, personalized, college preparatory public high school with a commitment to and expertise in serving a diverse student population, including a significant number of students with learning differences. Now starting its seventh year of school operations, Gateway is at full enrollment with 440 students in grades 9-12. Gateway has graduated three senior classes, sending students to colleges and universities both near and far. More than 600 students applied for the 100 places in the current 9th grade class. Gateway’s students come from more than 100 different middle schools. For more information, contact Margot Shaub at 415-242-2654 ext.16, www.gatewayhigh.org.
