Gateway High School Students Overwhelmingly Pass California High School Exit Exam
April 26th, 2006
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - April 24, 2006 - The sophomore class of Gateway High School, a California Distinguished School and San Francisco public charter school, posted impressive results on the February 2006 California High School Exit Exam, (CAHSEE). 98% of Gateway sophomores, who took the test, passed the English Language Arts section and 90% passed the Math section of the CAHSEE exam.
“All Gateway seniors have passed both sections of the exam and are, therefore, eligible to receive a diploma. And our sophomores faired extraordinarily well on this exam including our students with learning disabilities,” said Gateway Principal Sharon Olken. 25% of Gateway students have a diagnosed learning difference or disability, two times the number in a typical SFUSD school.
All students in California are required to pass both sections of the CAHSEE (English Language Arts and Math by their senior year) in order to earn a diploma. This is the first year that California seniors will not be able to graduate without passing the CAHSEE exam
