Students “Step Up” to Help Others this Holiday Season

December 16th, 2008

Meals

On Monday, December 15, 2008 ten FLI (Future Leaders Institute) students in grades 10-12 volunteered at St. Anthony’s Dining Room. There they served meals and warmed the hearts of those in need this holiday season. Along with their teacher Joyce McMinn and Tutor Coordinator Joanne Wells, these students joined with others to prepare and serve over 2000 meals. As they dished up meals, they also served up smiles and cheer with their respectful “hello sir” and “hello ma’am” welcomes. We are proud of these fine students who exemplify the true Gateway spirit, in service to others.

Toy Drive

Gateway students, faculty and staff have joined together through the month of December collecting toys for deserving kids through the local nonprofit City of Dreams

www.city-of-dreams.org.

Gateway’s front office elf Elizabeth Dubuque spearheaded the effort and Gateway’s community came through with gifts galore to fill over 80 requests. Helping those less fortunate enjoy a happy holiday came naturally for our students who not only led the toy drive, but will also work with Elizabeth to wrap the presents and hand them out this weekend.

Happy Holidays to all!
