Gateway Students Impress at Poetry Slam Competition
March 5th, 2010
In February, Gateway students Jasmine Pierce-Smith, Sandra Galvan, Angel Mena, Andre Ashley and Kysen Kuo participated in their first ever SFUSD Poetry Slam competition presented by Youth Speaks at the San Francisco Public Main Library.
Faculty Advisor and Humanities Teacher Becca Wieder is proud of her slam team. "They gave a ridiculously impressive performance and they won to move onto the Bay Area Slam where they came in fourth! "
Encouraged by Youth Speaks' coaches, Gateway students wrote, practiced and ultimately presented well in competition with four other San Francisco and Oakland based teams.
