Student Server Instructions

How to login to the Student Server with OS 10.x at School:

  1. Click anywhere on the desktop space to make the Finder menu appear at the top of your screen.  Then select the Go menu and choose Connect to Server... the Connect to Server window will appear.  Select or type student.gatewayhigh.org and click Connect. The login window should appear.

  2. Enter your username and password and click "Connect."

    1. Your username is the first letter of your first name and the first seven letters of your last name.

    2. Your password is whatever you were given in advisory.

  3. Choose your username to connect directly to your folder on the server, or choose your graduation year from the list that appears (ex. 2007) and click "Ok." 

  4. Locate the icon for your username or graduation year on the desktop.

  5. Open the icon (and find your username if necessary). This is your folder to store your documents in.

  6. When done, logout of the computer to close the connection with the Student Server.  To logout go to the Apple menu and select "Logout."

How to save and retrieve files from your Student Server account:

  1. First, be sure that you are connected to the Student Server (see above).

  2. When working in a program like Word, you may save directly to your Student Server folder, or you may save to the desktop and then manually drag the file into your Student Server folder.

    1. The best thing to do is to save directly to your server folder, to do so; go to File> Save As and choose the Student Server (your username or graduation year) from the list of available locations from the Save As menu, then navigate to your folder on the Student Server and click "Save" to save the file into your folder.

    2. If your file is on the desktop, drag it into your Student Server folder.  Then delete the old copy from the desktop by dragging it to the trash.

  3. To retrieve a file saved on the Student Server, login and open the file, make your changes and then go to File> Save to save the updated file and automatically replace the old one on the Student Server.

  4. When done, logout of the computer to close the connection with the Student Server.  To logout go to the Apple menu and select "Logout."
